Ken Koushel, President and CEO, Managing Broker
Ken Koushel has over 33 years in the real estate field. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University in 1978, he began his career in the banking industry originating residential planned developments, mid-size commercial offices and shopping centers throughout Florida. In 1984 Ken started a construction company in South Florida building residential homes and developing residential communities. As a result of this experience, Ken has substantial experience with construction and maintenance issues facing community associations today. Ken moved to Georgia in 1991 and worked for an engineering firm analyzing military bases throughout the United States and performed lease acquisitions for General Services Administration. In 1998 Ken started Homeside Properties, Inc. with just one community and has now grown the company to currently manager 151 community associations. Ken was named the 2009 Educator of the Year by the Georgia Chapter of the Community Associations Institute. Ken currently holds a real estate salesperson license in the State of Florida and his broker’s license in Georgia.

James Hawthorne, Executive VP & CFO
James has over 31 years’ experience in owning and managing residential properties, including over 13 years’ experience working with community associations. He received his Salesperson License from the Georgia Real Estate Commission in 1989 and earned his Broker's License in 1992. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1990 and worked as a CPA in public accounting and for several real estate development and management companies. Furthermore, James worked for the Sports Arena Division of Turner Broadcasting System for 11 years and served as VP and Controller. During that time he was a member of the team of professionals that constructed Philips Arena.
Continuing his real estate education, James became a State Registered Real Property Appraiser in 2002 and completed Home Inspector training in 2003. In addition, he received his Real Estate Instructor License from the Georgia Real Estate Commission in 2003 and serves as a part time Real Estate Instructor with the Georgia Institute of Real Estate. James has earned several real estate and property management designations through formal training and production requirements. As a full time Real Estate Professional for the past several years, James has represented buyers and sellers in achieving their goals. James' passion for working with buyers and sellers of real estate lead to him becoming a Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA®) and to offer community management services directly to community associations in the Atlanta area beginning in 2006. James was named the 2008 Educator of the Year by the Georgia Chapter of the Community Associations Institute. James merged his company with Homeside Properties in 2009.
